Come & get cooking at our Surplus Feast

Want to be a food hero??

We are delighted to announce that we are hosting another Surplus Feast as part of the Greenwich Great Get Together!

Using surplus food from the wonderful FareShare, we’ll be cooking up a storm to serve to the hungry public.  This will be our 4th feast, at the last one we served over 700 meals, so we will need help.  Are you passionate about reducing food waste, want to spend your Saturday doing something extra specially wonderful and feel like a complete hero?? The join us!  We’re looking for volunteers to come along, chop, cook and generally have a great time with us, whilst raising awareness of the issues of food waste in the city.

But that’s not all, this year this fantastic festival is moving to the Royal Arsenal and will include some incredible new activities such as the premiere of an open air spectacular from Greenwich + Docklands International Festival – now, where else can you see that??  There will be a carnival parade, interactive science and art workshops, theatre shows, street entertainment, live music, sports activities and loads more.  It’s a great opportunity to get involved in this wonderful borough and the amazing work of Good Food in Greenwich!

So, interested in volunteering with us?? Please get in touch with to find out more!

London Food Strategy – have your say!

The GLA Food Policy Team have publicised the draft London Food Strategy for consultation.  The consultation period closes on the 5th July and we need as many responses as possible! The draft strategy can be found at

This Strategy is designed to help make the food environment across London healthier for all Londoners and outlines the Mayor’s ambitious vision for good food in the capital. Developed in partnership with the London Food Board, the strategy sets out actions under six priority areas.

These are:

  • Good food at home;
  • Good food shopping and eating out;
  • Good food in public institutions and community settings;
  • Good food for maternity, early years, education and health;
  • Good food growing, community gardens and urban farming; and
  • Good food for the environment

This is a fantastic opportunity for us in Greenwich to have our say and make sure the things that matter are included. For example, the draft Strategy is consulting on proposals to ban advertisements for unhealthy food and drink across the entire Transport for London (TfL) network, including the London Underground, London Overground and the capital’s buses and bus shelters, as part of a package of measures to take on child obesity.  We think this is one of the most ambitious and exciting things to happen in a long time!

There’s loads more at stake, so please have a read and respond as an individual or as part of your organisation or school, Children’s centre or whatever!

You can make your response here – it’s only 6 short questions and won’t take long.
