Good Food in Greenwich Business Charter!

We are delighted to announce the arrival of our brand new Good Food in Greenwich Business Charter.

There are lots of reasons to be healthier and more sustainable the health and welfare of people and animals; the environment; society and culture, and that it makes pure business sense.

Consumers today are asking more about the food they are eating, from how healthy it is through to where ingredients come from, and how the producers have been treated.  Many recent reports show customers are more likely to visit places where the food is sustainable, and where there are healthier and meat free options.

Committing to, and displaying the charter means they can trust that business is actively making changes to be a more sustainable business.  We know food businesses can’t be responsible for everything, but with more and more people eating out regularly, rather than as a treat, we think they play an important part in supporting people to be able to buy healthier, more sustainable food.

We’d love ALL Greenwich food businesses to sign the charter, so please get the word out there.  They will then feature on our preferred business supplier list and we will promote them in every way we can.  There is a pack that will support them to make changes and also someone from GCDA will come and visit them to help them too.

So, if you’re a customer; go to your local business, ask them to consider signing the charter and put them in touch with christina@gcda.org.uk who can go and visit them and support them to pledge

If you’re a business, email christina@gcda.org.uk and she can come and visit you with the pack to support you to make changes.  It won’t cost you anything!

We need Food Champion Volunteers!

Community Food Champion Volunteers needed!

  • Are you interested in and passionate about Good Food for all?
  • Would you like to support children to access a delicious healthy meal during the school holidays?
  • Or would you like to get involved in community meals across the borough?

If so, then we have some fantastic opportunities for you.

GCDA and RBG, under the Good Food in Greenwich Partnership are delivering food-based projects across the borough, throughout the year, but we need more help!

  1. Holiday meal provision

Over the school holidays many kids may go hungry as schools and their kitchens are closed.  GCDA, with partners GLL, CACT & FareShare, is delivering meals over the holidays to provide food at centres around the borough and are looking for volunteers to help.

This summer there will be 13 venues serving twice a week so any time you have to spare would be gratefully received!

NB (DBS check is needed but this will be at no cost to you

  1. Community Meals

Currently, volunteers with the Good Food in Greenwich Pop-up Kitchen are moving round the borough putting on monthly meals using surplus food to create delicious dishes and inviting the community in to eat together and get to know each other.  They have been a fantastic success and people want more, but we need more volunteers to make it work!

  1. Surplus Feasts

GCDA runs larger Surplus Feast events throughout the year, usually on the weekends and we’re always looking for

The wonderful Patreace, our fabulous chef

Good Food in Greenwich Network meeting!

GOOD FOOD IN GREENWICH NETWORK MEETING

12TH JUNE, 10 – 12.30 AT IKEA IN GREENWICH

Our next Network meeting is this Wednesday at Ikea in their beautiful community space atop the building (ask any of their lovely staff for directions to the room).  We’ll be hearing from some great new projects and their journey’s through food, and also hearing about what’s going on in the borough you can promote or get involved with.  We’re also (soft) launching our Good Food in Greenwich Business Charter!  And will be asking how you can support the partnership and how you want to be involved.

We’re also throwing in a fantastic lunch so you can eat, chat and relax with other like-minded foodies.

We’d love to hear from you and see you there, so please do get in touch – mel@gcda.org.uk for more information!
